Audi has been setting new records and crossing many important milestones in the past few years. Globally the brand has been growing steadily for years. In spite of a difficult economy, Audi crossed 1 million sales worldwide for the first time in 2008.
Since then growth has accelerated, and last year the brand announced that over 2 million Audis had been sold in the United States since it entered our market 40 years ago.
Now another milestone in Audi's goal to become the largest automaker has been crossed - over 100,000 U.S sales for the first time. No doubt at this pace the next two million Audis will come much faster.
101,629 is the exact figure, shattering the brand's previous 93,506 unit record set in 2007 for a total that is up 23 percent year-over-year.
That still places it well behind the U.S luxury pack, but historically Audi has been a small player on the U.S luxury scene. That is clearly changing, and it's something we welcome. Globally the U.S ranks as Audi's fourth largest market, behind the United Kingdom, China and Germany.
Audi expects the growth to continue in 2011, with a strong economy and new models like the A8, A7 Sportback and redesigned A6.
