8 Clever Gadgets For The Geekiest Petrolheads Out There

If you're into cars, chances are you have a soft spot for toys, gadgets and gizmos too. We've collected everything from an app-controlled race exhaust to a DIY grabber gadget that'll keep even the geekiest petrolhead happy

You can switch the air flow with the push of a button and unleash some heavenly tunes from the back pipes. This system even comes with an app so you can control it from your iPhone. How cool is that?

2. Human Hoist creeper

Having this chair would make you wish something was broken on your car all the time. Unforunately it’s still at the crowdfunding stage, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for the retail version.

If you own a BMW and you’re a bit of a ricer deep down (we all are), this is a must. Prices start around £40 and the installation is fairly easy. Expect a big crowd around your car when you show up to a meet with these.

4. Tyre pressure monitoring system

Most people underestimate the amount of difference tyre pressure can play in the handling of a car. It’s probably the easiest and cheapest way to tune a car’s balance. With a Bluetooth tyre pressure monitor, you can keep an eye on all four tyres in real-time, and even measure their (air) temperature.

5. Any Android phone

Why? Because Car Throttle App.

6. OBD2 reader

With some dealers charging over £50 to clear a check engine light, this £5 gadget will save you a lot of money. You can find them on eBay, and once it’s delivered you just hook it up to a smartphone to see your ECU’s diagnostics and real-time data. Essential for all VW owners out there.

7. Compact jump-starter

This is the equivalent of a smartphone’s external battery pack, with the difference that it can actually jump-start a car. Comes especially useful when you’re sitting in the McDonald’s car park with the radio on and engine off for a bit too long. (That definitely didn’t happen to me last week).

It’s some sort of grabber designed to combat the so-called ‘pit of doom’ between the seat and the centre console. It will also come in handy when you inevitably drop things in the engine bay. We’ve all been there and this looks like a real game changer.

I recommend downloading the “Torque” app. It reads the codes and you can use it for a variety of gauges. The pro (costs money) version even has a 0-60 timer if I’m not mistaken

Oh Henry

A couple points on the list.

1) For the amount you’re going to spend on that system, why not just get a race exhaust. If you’re allowed it, heck, even if you’re not, you’re just going to leave it off anyways. Let’s be real.

2) that’s cool. But I’m not lazy…okay I am, but I’m poor.

3) Colour morphing lights are my weakness and they’re going in my car next month. Got them for Christmas. Angel eyes, and demon eyes.

4) They come stock in some newer vehicles, but an app is cool.

5) I have to write this on the website because the app won’t let me comment that many characters. Fix that please.

6) I have one, and it’s amazing. I highly recommend picking one up. I got mine for $30 and got the Torque app for $10.

7) They’re so handy for when you least expect that you need them.

8) That seems like the kind of thing you get for your mother-in-law for Christmas because you don’t want to spend more than $10 on her.

Why block the space when you can actually use it?
