Is a mk2 8v golf gti a good first car? Costs £1.8k to insure. So cheaper than most.

Well that’s what I thought considering they are renound for their reliability and great handling. Safety meh, may be a concern though…

I did a go compare insurance quote for a 17 year old male full time education living at home, parked on the side of the road with no tracker or mods. There were about 4 insurers who offered between £1.6k and £2k. Very important to note that the 8v (especially the earlier models are a lot less than their 16v counterparts)!

Here you go! Also good considering online valuations often are more expensive!

The car in question 102k miles, £2,600. Sorry for the low resolution picture.

If you do get it, make sure you don’t ‘hellaflush’ it or become one of those typical ‘dub’ owners. Sorry if I sound elitist but they really do ruin nice examples like this one

Hell no. The only thing I would do is replace the nasty aftermarket steering wheel - ether with a good condition oem one or a simple momo black/suede product. Maybe an Ashley exhaust, providing they are not to loud, as ultimately it would be a daily drive.
