Formula One is Dying and its all Because of Money.

For as long as I can remember I’ve loved Formula One; the cars were fast and beautiful and the racing was close and interesting. Now, though, I’m not so sure. The sport is always being dominated by one team or another, bearing in mind I am a Lewis Hamilton fan and I’m getting really fed up with Mercedes constantly winning that’s really saying something.

Every time I speak to my dad about qualifying on a Saturday it’s always just a question of how much faster the Mercs were than the competition, during the race there is almost no point in watching because it’ll just be Lewis Hamilton who wins, which is great for him because he will get the three world championships he deserves but I’d rather him really compete for it rather than have it handed to him on a silver platter and fed to him.

I hate the 1.6l V6 turbos, they produce an awful drone compared to the absolutely stunning N/A V8s of the previous generation of Formula One engines, the technology is incredible because they can get all that power out of the ERS system, everyone but Honda can do it it seems because they think that the engine horsepower deficit is non existent now but the power unit, as they are now officially called, overall is far less reliable and powerful than the next best power unit which is the Renault power unit.

To make the sport more interesting they should bring back refueling and ground effect aerodynamics if they did I’d love Formula One again, It’d probably mean that Red Bull won’t have to leave Formula One which as well which would be devastating for the sport as they are one of the best teams.

They’re also slowly picking off the older circuits that everyone loved because they can cream more money out of billionaires in smaller countries that want Formula One in their country, I think that maybe Silverstone and Monza will soon be off of the calendar in favour of new street circuits that no one will go to to watch and expensive new race tracks like Yas Marina and Circuit of The Americas because it seems like Bernie Ecclestone only wants to add to the hundreds of millions that the sport already generates, I’m not interested in how much money the sport makes though and I’m sure you aren’t either, I just want the old F1 back. Sort it out Bernie.

Remember that F1 has always been dominated by one team or another. Back in the V8 era. Red Bull won four times in a row, and no one complained. F1 is a sport that require not just a great driver but also a great team, to build the car. They are not just running the same car with a different tune, if they were McLaren Honda would win everything. Sure it could be more exciting, and I agree Bernie should be thrown out, but I think the 2017 regs will sort a lot of this out. Also Merc cannot dominate forever, look how much Ferrari have closed the gap.

Ferrari is too little too late I think, I really hope that the 2017 regs will help.
