Is a BMW a good first car

I have been looking at BMW’s for the past few weeks ( can’t really sleep without taking a look now) and I was wondering if it would be a good car to have as a first car ( my budget for my first car is at most £5500). I have been hooked on this idea for a few weeks now and was wondering if it would be a good idea to go through with or not.

The insurance is insanely high, its not feasable at all for a first car because of cost. You should be thinking along the lines of ‘what is the most boring, slow car money can buy in th uk’, and the answer to this is just about the only thing which would cost you more than 5/6 thousand a year to insure.

To put it in perspective, the cheapest 1 series available on autotrader would cost £5600 a year, the an e36 318i would be just over £8000/year. If your budget for initial cost is only £5500, then you cant afford the insurance.

This may sound harsh, but its the truth about first cars in the UK, just go for something s****y and wait a few year before thinking about something you like :)

I will be also getting a Bmw e36 but insurance here is around 300e for a 328 :)
Now here’s the problem: You can’t find a good e36 these days…

Yes. They’re great cars, and a lot more reliable than people make them out to be.
