Mercury Cougar 50th Anniversary Gathering in Dearborn, MI

This June at Ford Motor Company World Headquarters, hundreds of enthusiasts will gather to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first production of the Mercury Cougar. Cougars from 1967 through 2002 will be present, gathering right where they were first conceived. The event is hosted by the Classic Cougar Club of America. Below is a link to the event page.

Originally born from the same platform as the Mustang, the Mercury Cougar has long lived in its shadow. However, the Cougar has always been for the distinguished buyer, more refined and luxurious than its brash counterpart. These cars are more than just a re-branded Mustang or a cousin to the Thunderbird, but a statement in their own right. The Cougar enthusiast community mostly revolve around the restoration and preservation of classic Cougars from 1967-1973.

Many unique and immaculate Cougars will be in attendance, such as Cougar 1, the very first Cougar to roll off the production like back in 1967. Below is a quick video by its owner on how this Cat was rescued and given a full museum-quality restoration.

However, many other cats will be present, such as the fully custom 1986 convertible, shown below. This car is owned by Eric Dess, who also runs the website www.coolcats.net and has the largest wealth of information on the Foxbody Cougars. I am forever in debt to him for his research and look forward to meeting him in person.

All of the cars shown here will be present at the gathering on June 8th - 12th. I may not have a show quality Cougar myself, but I will most certainly be there to be a part of this awesome event!

I am so looking forward to this event! I plan to clean up and detail my car beforehand, might even get around to laying a fresh coat of paint in factory colors before then.

I like the 2 Blue Cougars Eliminators and also to see prototype of the Cougar.
But,that white 1986 Cougar LS swap convertible it looks very weird.
