1380cc Fast Road Mini

This is my 1993 Rover Mini Cooper, there isn’t much left that resembles the British racing green go kart it used to be. I liked the original look, it sported white racing stripes, sportsman arches and a set of ultralites but it wasn’t unique enough for me.

The car was completely stripped down, partly due to the usual onset of rust and also because I wanted a change. After further changes four years down the line this is how the car sits now.

The colour is Rallye Green from the Skoda Vrs which I had, at the time, never seen on a mini before. I put on some miglia fibreglass arches which cover the Force Racing titanium split rim wheels pretty nicely. The suspension consists of lowered gaz shocks and adjustable hi Los, with adjustable camber brackets, tie rods and bottom arms. It has wheel spacers front and rear to help fill the large arches.

The roof, bootlid and grille are full carbon fibre with exposed weave. All are extremely light and look awesome (in my biased opinion). Inside is a safety devices rear roll cage, carbon dash, corbeau bucket seats and three point harnesses.

The engine was built by KAD and is a 5 port 1380cc engine. It has a KAD 100 cam, omega pistons, 1:5:1 rockers, modified cylinder head and other little touches. The engine and fuelling is managed by a specialist components ECU coupled with a throttle body with twin bosch injectors. Gearbox is a 4 speed box with a central oil pick up pipe and four pin diff. A performance clutch is required due to the 100hp and 100 lb ft torque. To stop all this I have four pot minisport calipers and vented discs, i hope to change these for KAD brakes in the future.

Overall I love this car, it is uncomfortable and loud enough inside to wake the dead but for a weekend car it is my dream mini.

Thanks for reading!
