My m52 ticks when warm it is lifter tick, it gos away at high rpm and it ticks less if i drive it hard. Is my oil too thin (5w 40) or why is that.

A thicker oil might help

I’m pretty sure it’s not something to worry about but I run 0w 40 issue free

My old m52 had the same. I was afraid about the timechain those days. But it was truely unfounded. I had no problems in 3yrs/120k km with that issue :)

5w 50 oil fixed it

My timing chain recently went and i was convinced it was lifter tick. Change your oil and give a few drives to flush out the blockage in case it is lifter tick. If the ticking is still there after the oil change get the chain checked out
