In my opinion, a “good first car” would be some hatchback or small coupé under 200hp in the 2008-2012 model year.
For one thing, for a first car, you would want something that would start 99% of the time. You would want a car that you could financially rely on.
I would think a car like the 240 would be a great first project car though. But not your first daily.
I have to disagree, a first car can be an old Volvo or some other cheap car, if it’s maintained properly. Many people can’t even afford a 2000-> car, let alone something from around 2010.
In Europe we have ridiculously taxes when it comes to cars, I mean I have to pay 750€ a year for my Renaults insurance, and I paid 700€ for the whole car… the newer the car is, the higher tax you have to pay, also engine size and bhp matters, more power/bigger engine = higher tax etc.
My Renault (even though many people say they’re very unreliable) starts at -25C° without problems, all the electrics work, nothing has gone wrong in the past 8 months and I’ve covered about 15k with it. It has very cheap parts because it’s old, so if something breaks down it’s an easy/cheap fix compared to a, let’s say 2008 Golf GTi.
do you know how f*cking stupid you sound i still got my first car its a 240 I HAVE NEVER EVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY 240 there better then most of the depreciating shit ass modern cars the 240 is the best car as your first car there cheap to fix there not hard to maintain and can handle plenty of hp you put in them and you can pick them up dirt cheap what a load of bullshit coming from someone who has never owned a volvo before
Typically, no. Depending on where you live and your resources, a Volvo can be a bit much as a first car.
It’s a bit big for a first car, but It is ultra-reliable and dirt cheap so honestly it would make a decent first car
Totally fine for first car! I have owned 2 volvos before and currently i have 740 and it has 463000+ kilometres and works perfectly, volvos are easy and usually cheap to fix, driving it is also pleasant and fun, especially fun in winter. If i have think the worse minus of owning a volvo, is that it drinks a lot.
I’d say so. Really cheap, reliable and safe. If something does go wrong they’re pretty easy to work on. They’re great for drifting in winter. They do use a bit much fuel though.
-Reliable -Easy to fix -Very comfortable ride -Safe -Cheap parts which are easily available -Cheap running costs (except fuel, because older Volvos tend to eat more gas) -Easy to tune and it wil still be reliable -The car has a lot of hidden potential
So yes, just make sure that it’s been maintained properly
Yea
In Malaysia, depending on where you live, these older volvos may be difficult to fix because some mechanics just haven’t worked with them before and won’t have parts. Also, some of them go over the magical 2.0 engine mark in Malaysia and you’ll be paying more road tax than the car is worth. Otherwise, a super reliable heavy tank of a car with a manual and a tunable modular volvo engine.
