Tom's X540 Chaser
GT6 Description
The TOM’S X540 Chaser paid homage to the company’s involvement with the Japan Touring Car Championship (JTCC). TOM’S dominated its class with the Chaser in 1998, and the X540 incorporated tuning parts custom-developed by the company to provide drivers with a small sampling of the prowess of its race car.
Engine power was enhanced by raising boost-pressure settings, resulting in more than 295 HP. The onboard computer was also tweaked to ensure adequate torque at low and medium speeds. The suspension system employs TOM’S own Advox high-performance kit, which played an important role in its JTCC victory. The basic layout was the same as in the racing suspension, but the settings were modified for street use. The springs were tuned for compliance to ensure a smooth ride quality, but at the same time, TOM’S made sure the car possessed first-rate cornering abilities.
Also helping in the handling department was a rigid chassis, reinforced with the application of six-point braces to the underside of the floor. The upgrade brake system included a steel mesh hose and fade-resistant pads, allowing for better control.
This sports sedan truly offered the best of all worlds; it delivered plenty of comfort for daily use, while holding its own against most any sports car on twisty roads or at the racetrack.
