100,016th Miata ever made if it was the 16th Miata ever made then it would be 000016 for the last 6 numbers

I think that the 1 is a “check” digit. Also, the Build Date is September 1989, I doubt that Mazda managed to manufacture 100 000 Mx-5s by then

Not really. The digits start from 100000

J - Built in Japan, M - Built by Mazda, 0 - It should be 1 if it was a car so I don’t know what your Miata is then ;) NA - NA model, 30 - pre-05 model, 6 - I don’t know as it should be 1 or 3 or 4 (indicates engine), 1 - check digit, 0 - Should be model year but doesn’t match any year, 0 - Built in Hiroshima, 100016 is car number but doesn’t mean it’s 100,016th Miata ever built. My 1991 car should be something like 250,000th Miata then ;) Your VIN numbers seem to differ from those of mine. Plus each model year starts with 100001 so yours should be 16th of the year then.

Probably those differences are caused by the early date of manufacture. If I were you I would contact Mazda and ask them!
