Is really necessary to clay bar paint before applying cutting compound?

I need to fix oxidized paint

Thanks in advance

If you are going to be doing a really heavy cut or wet sanding it’s not really necessary. Claying gets stuff out that could clog up your pad and keep it cutting well and also to stop mild scratches or hazing on fine polishing. But if the paint is bad it’s not necessary because you will be taking loads of stuff off anyway.

The paint isn’t that bad. It still shines but not like a mirror.
There just some rough spots
So i should clay before doing something

My plans are claying and later use meguiar’s ultimate compound with microfiber hand pad, is that right?
Thanks

I would clay it, means when you polish it the pad or microfibre isn’t picking up the correction and actually scratching it more or deeper. Plus it will give it a nice feel (don’t forget behind the door handles then you’ll feel it everytime you get in)

yep, i was thinking about that, since when i wax the car with meguiar’s cleaner wax the pad get’s a bit dirty, so the paint is a bit contaminated i think.

thanks for your comment :) i’ll wait untill i have enough money for clay bar and compound
