Difference between Bosozoku and Ricers

Bosozoku

Bosozoku is Japaneses style of building in Japan. But yet some people in other countries don’t understand this style. From what I heard is that people call these cars Ricers. Rice stands for
-Race
-Inspired
-Cosmetic
-Enhancement
This build is not for racing as the extra parts would cause massive drag coefficient and fuel consumption. So why do people call this Rice, what I think is that some have not seen this before and don’t know the proper word for it. This is a style of builds in Japan, in fact it’s more of a cultural thing that a simple car build. (Yes it’s a Scion XB and there is a reason.)

Ricer

This is what a Ricer is (Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements). These are the parts that would should not buy in Auto Zone or any auto part store. These parts are unnecessary to have on any car as the don’t offer any real down force. So why do people buy these parts. Well what I theorize is that these people are not real car enthusiasts, and don’t seem to understand that these parts and extra weight.

So learn the difference between these or don’t judge Bosozoku’s. It’s that simple.

Some people just don’t know it properly. For me I would not build one of these but the there is a lot of effort in it, and that’s why I respect them.

Zokusha originally started as race inspired - they copied the bodykits of the super silhouette races in the early 80’s. From there the purpose has been to grab attention (from the law) and doing whatever they feel like - long exhaust tips, shapes.

But is it wrong for ricers to do the same?

I’m not a fan of riced cars but its true that many people dont know the difference and to insult somebody’s car is cruel knowing all the efforts and money we put in it.

I honestly don’t see a big reason to hate. My comment on your previous post was sarcasm(and the thought process of most of face book :p) I think they both put a lot of effort into their cars and both deserve respect. Rice, Bosozoku, or race car. We are all enthusiasts, we just have different tastes.

I can’t see the difference. In addition, calling people non-enthusiasts, because their style doesn’t fit yours, is stupid. “Rice” was popular in the 90’s, but now it isn’t. Bosozoku or whatever, is just the more expensive and shiny variant of “Rice”. Some people just want a Car that looks like that, but they don’t have the money, so they buy cheap alternatives.

Bosozoku is the most awful and the weirdest style. It’s only a form to look for attention (and that’s why it was created). It looks like tuning designed by Homer Simpson or a five-year-old, just no functional improvement and it looks ugly.
Yes, I like mostly stock esthetics and engine and chasis tuning for improve performance. I don’t like bodykits, only I accept that if it’s looking for downforce or some performance improvement, or cooling the engine. But you can modify your car to look it better. Bosozoku is not the correct way :P

It was associated with gang culture

Bosozoku is inspired from the super silhoutte cars in the 80’s they raced in japan with the group 5 regulations. the yakuza loved the cars so much they wanted to look their cars like those super silhouette’s (look it up Nissan silvia super silhouette the inspiration of the bosozoku cars) and as the yakuza made the cars look like the super silhouettes other gangs started to copy and made their own unique customizations to look to identify them to their own gang and so the different styles of bosozoku started to develop and over the years everything became more extreme and own style for the sake of trademark like.
