E46 M3 or Porsche 911 (996)

So I’ve come to the decision that if I were to sell my supercharged 320ci, I’d be able to buy a E46 M3 OR a Porsche 911 (996 generation).

I’m still split up on the case, while I’ve been a huge Porsche fan for all of my life I think the stock 996 c2 might be a bit to slow for my taste, the handeling of it is very smooth and not very agressive. Even statistics show it’s slower compared to the M3.

But at the same time the ride and overall quality is a lot better than the M3, not to mention the possibility to make a good investment.

Long story short, after driving both cars, I really like both cars, both have qualities I like and dislike. Can you guys give your input on this subject, maybe some experiences with either of these cars.

Tough call. Both cars exude lots of character.
I’d advise driving both for a day and then decide which meets your driving style best.

I would love to own a 996! I had an E46 M3 and will always regret selling it because it was not only fast and beautiful but half way practical. I think the 996 fills the fast and beautiful categories but wont be at all practical.

I have a 996 and absolutely love it. It may not be the fastest car on the road but to me it feels more special than the BMW. There are a few things to look out for when buying a 996 but if you get a good one it’s an amazing car and the way it goes round corners and grips you can keep up with more powerful cars quite easily.
