Why can't you just add a gated shifter to your car? I've asked around and I'm still confused.

because the throw is different in every car.

Isn’t the throw the distance the shifter goes when you put it into gear? If so, can’t people or you just measure that distance and make some templates?

Well if you go look at the MX5/Miata there is an aftermarket one available so it can be done.

What are gear walls? And does the shifter position stop depending on the transmission or the stopping point on the metal shifter frame?

Well gated shifter are aesthetics and pleasure more than anything, that’s why people want them.
