1991 VW Polo Treser Cabriolet

This 1991 oddball was not directly made by VW, but still sold through VW-dealerships.
If you ordered a Polo Convertible with either the 55 or the 75hp petrol engine and paid 16.000 German Mark on top of the normal car’s price the finished car would be shipped from the factory to the Ingolstadt-based company Treser, whose employees would start by taking the new car almsot completely apart, before cutting the roof and pillars off and installing a retractable soft-top.
After that they would adapt the interior trim and rear section of the car before putting the car back together and shipping it to the VW-dealership the customer had chosen to pick his car up at.
290 Polos are known to have been converted, 240 of which with the 75hp engine, between 1991 and 1993.
As of the first of January 2014, 48 Treser-Polos were listed as still in use, five of which with the 55hp engine and 43 with the 75hp engine and the GT-trim, like the one on display.
