LS or Coyote?
Hey guys, hope I’m posting this in the right community. I got a big question that has been on my head recently. I have an idea for a project car, I plan on converting a 2nd gen (last gen) Crown Vic to a drag/sleeper car.
In case you don’t know, Crown Vics come with an SOHC 250HP V8 which isn’t all that great and lacks any power potential.
So I had it in my mind that I was either gonna have a Coyote or an LS, but I couldn’t make my mind up. I don’t know which one will be cheaper say to achieve 700+HP, or any reliability issues that I might incounter going to that high of a HP number.
So, I want you beautiful CTzens to help me decide what to get!
In the mean time, check this Crown Vic
P.S. I’m getting either one of them from a junkyard
P.P.S. I’m open for other suggestions!

Coyote would be more politicaly correct
What I have in mind is anything but politically correct :P
Coyotes came out later than the ls engine so there will be more ls engines to choose from…
the 4.6 modular has many different performance options. 3 and 4 valve heads exist, the 4 valve are dohc. superchargers, turbochargers, nitrous kits exist. stroker kits exist, but with a beautiful and uncommon rod/stroke ratio of almost 9:1 it would be a shame to stroke it!
But I just think to swap to a more modern engine (I know the LS is pushrod, don’t kill me for it) would be more convenient, and perhaps cheaper. You have to realize that I live almost 11000 KM (roughly 7000 miles) away from the US. Since the Coyote and LS motors found their way into many cars exported to my country, I can find one in a junkyard, or one for sale.
Though I do understand that I still have to buy heads or blocks or whatever to achieve the kind of power I want in a Coyote or an LS, the chance of someone ordering a big shipment (would cost less vs. just one product) that is willing to sell it to people are much higher than the modular which pretty much no one uses.
LS
Although I am a Ford guy and do believe in keeping it in the family an LS. They are just prolific and if you put you money in it correctly it will be easier in the long run.

But I always thought that the only area the LS was better than the Coyote at was packaging and cost.
I would say LS because they’ve been in so many different GM vehicles so you could find one cheaper than a Coyote. Have you thought about the 6.2L V8 in the Raptor (not sure if those are exported)?
We have a ton of raptors, but I don’t think the aftermarket is that great, besides the fact that almost no one swaps to them anyway. Besides, it’s a successor to the Modular found in the Crown Vic. Also, comparing it to the Coyote and LS it literally has zero advantages.
I love my coyote, best sound in the world! Parts are easy to find and plentiful. My brother has an Ls ss camero and it is definitively not my preference.
Ls is cheaper more parts avalible but the 5.0 is more correct
LS will be cheaper to build.
I think a diesel swap would be ridiculous awesome
Ls will be cheaper and easier to find/build. Plus way more reliable and easier to find information about ls swaps if you run into any issues
