E36 front cracked panel repair

A costomer brought a rally built e36 compact and it was a little bit beat up. Took a quick look in the engine bay and saw a problem. One of the many problems that i saw that the front panel was cracked on one side so I decided to take a few photos while i worked on it.

With angle grinder and a wire brush I cleaned of the damaged area to see what i need to repair.

Metal is very thin and it might crack again. So why not make it stronger aswel. Took some good old cardboard and made a piece that would fit in nicely and made it out of metal. Also drilled a few holes to make it extra stiff.

Started welding, might not look so good but you can always grind it down :D And also almost ran out of gas.

The finished product. It look really good. And a few weeks later my work was accidently tested. The driver was a bit too fast in the corner and rolled the car over a few times and the other side cracked and the side that i fixed was in perfect shape :D After the crash I still haven’t seen that car. (And also I made a little mistake not taking out the plastic headlight holding screw. It wasn’t damaged ot anything but it might have)
