1996 Mitsubishi Libero GT - Frankenstein 4G93 + T MIVEC

This is my ‘96 Mitsi Libero with a 4G93T MIVEC motor. I’ve haven’t heard of many GSR’s with this engine, let alone Libero’s. The build took 6 months, and it was finished exactly a year after I crashed my Corolla.

I bought this car as a rolling body for $800 with a gearbox and on chrome wheels. Picked up the motor about a week or two after I bought the car.

I decided to go for the Evo bolt on upgrades, so it’s currently running Evo 3 injectors, an Evo 3 turbo, a chipped gizzmo Evo 2 ECU, an Evo AFM, a Turbosmart Dual Port blow off valve and the exhaust manifold was modified to have a 38mm wastegate port fitted, so there’s a turbosmart external wastegate on it with a screamer pipe pointed straight down. I’m currently running the engine on 6psi, very conservative boost levels to run the motor in as it’s a pretty delicate build and not a lot is known about the strength of this frankenstein motor.

I’m running 15” Evo 3 OZ’s on Nitto tyres, stock brakes with ceramic brake pads, lowered springs front and rear (unsure of brand), Evo 5/6 side skirts, genuine Evo bonnet, guards and front bumper, with the factory Libero GT rear bumper with the rear fog light.

This was my first proper project car, and while a bulk of very specific and delicate work was done by my cousin MK as if the job was botched it could be a fatal mistake, I tried to do as much work to the car myself as I could. That meant a lot of amateur mistakes of course, but I wanted to get as much experience and hone my skills as much as I could.

I was planning to sell the car in a month or two, but I’m now more leaning towards keeping it and tidying it up and finishing it to my own standard before letting it go. That just means a lot more time and money, and with my first year of uni starting soon, it’s a decision I’ll have to mull over.
