These Guys Made An Off-Road Buggy Out Of A Suzuki Alto And It’s Awesome
While perusing the Car Throttle Garage today, I came across this brilliant built-not-bought off-road buggy, and fell in love with it immediately. CT user Wade Shinners worked with his dad to take the engine out of a 1987 Suzuki Alto and strap it into this frame.
It’s not what you’d call potent; the F8B engine is a 796cc three-pot making about 30bhp. Thanks to the fact that the buggy only weighs around 500kg, though, speed isn’t really a problem; it’ll do around 56mph. In the future, the pair plan to strap in a turbo from an RX-7, which should give it a nice little boost.
As you can see from the photos, Wade and his dad fabricated a frame, into which they placed the engine. All other parts associated with the running of the buggy, such as the exhaust and radiator, are neatly packaged, making for an efficient setup. My personal favourite touch is the beefy suspension that gives the knobby tyres suitable travel on rough terrain.
It might not have the usual ‘big power, in-yer-face aesthetics’ that typically catch our eye, but this is the very definition of built not bought, and for that Wade and his father deserve huge respect!
