The Tesla Roadster's 'SpaceX Pack' Will Make It Even Faster

Amidst all Tesla’s problems - from the long-running Model 3 production woes to those gigantic 2018 Q1 losses - it’s easy to forget the Californian company has some incredible stuff planned for the future. So long as Tesla’s able to stick around, in the next few years we’ll see the Semi, an M3-baiting Model 3 Performance and even a C-segment hatchback.

But the one we’re most looking forward to is - inevitably - the Roadster. How can you not be won over by something which looks like that, and will do 0-60mph in 1.9 seconds? And with a starting price of $200,000, it’s not even that expensive, considering the performance on offer.

But if you’re happy parting with more money, Tesla will sell you an even faster one. At a shareholder meeting, CEO Elon Musk - who this week saw off an attempt by investors to oust him from his position - promised versions of both the Semi and the Roadster that will be “even better than what was unveiled.”

The Tesla Roadster's 'SpaceX Pack' Will Make It Even Faster

“In particular, the Tesla Roadster. What we unveiled with the Roadster was the base model performance. It’s going to have a SpaceX options package. It’s crazy,” he added. He didn’t offer any further details, but with the standard car already having something called a “plaid mode” (for the uninformed, that is - like ‘Ludicrous Mode’ - another Spaceballs reference), we don’t doubt the ‘crazy’ part.

All sounds a little needless when the base car is already so fast, but according to Musk, it’s all about challenging the “halo effect” of petrol-powered cars. “It’s important for us to show with the Roadster that an electric vehicle can outperform a gasoline car in every way,” he said.

Able to go to the Mars at the speed of light.
But its release gets delayed each year by 2 years.

It’s probably to distract us all from his slowly crumbling foothold. It’s reminding us what he and Tesla are theoretically capable of, but not necessarily actually capable of producing amazing and technologically advanced vehicles, while the company sorts out its various production and financial issues.

I wonder if there’s any other company who does this?

If this ever gets made, it’s going to make the Humvee look lightweight

I‘d like to be Elon Musk. Just go to your shareholders and say: Yea, we‘ve had some trouble. But look! I drew a car for you and wrote down some numbers. They‘re based on absolutely nothing but are nice to look at.

As predicted…the “good news” to counteract the last round of bad Tesla news.

I honestly call BS on the even quicker model of the Tesla Roadster, the physics at play appart is the physical traction required for the car to put the power down to the ground, is it possible to put a 1.8 with the current settings if the necessary adjustments are done on the car but as we saw on the unveil of the prototype for the roadster we could see how the tires were practically slipping on the ground fighting for traction, even the T.V.S was struggling to keep them from spinning loosing traction,I honestly say that even if they manage to make it
driving the roadster will be near impossible if you have the heavy foot of a average driver and will often result in smooth tires from unexpected 0-60’s or rear ending other slower cars in traffic jams, will we ever see a gentlemen’s agreement for acceleration? So far the Japanese did that with the speed and power of cars back then.
So far the quickest electric car I know is from 2016,is a racecar not street legal and…it reaches 60mph in 1.5 secs, quite an insane acceleration… unless Tesla makes a proper Dedicated expensive Hypercar they won’t get better results.
The real question is…how are they going to even make a quicker and faster car if they can’t even make a simple project like a affordable family sedan? I’m no car maker but a mechanic but I know that to begin at something you first watch and learn the professionals ,then apply the knowledge…if Elon wants to stay in the car motoring world they should erase the Works in progress like the semi and roadster and rather focus all strength on the current model 3, and make it a rentable car.
