Not So Fast: Updated VW Phaeton Not Coming To The U.S

When the updated Volkswagen Phaeton was released at the Beijing Auto Show, there were some reports that the car was coming to the United States. Given the previous model's lack of success in our market, it was an interesting possibility.

To find out for sure, we reached out to Steve Keyes, the Director for Press and Public Relations at VW, for a statement. He said there are "no plans" to offer the updated Phaeton in the U.S market.

That doesn't mean the Phaeton is entirely over in our market however. The next generation car, for an introduction date of around 2015, is "under consideration."

This would fit in with comments made last year by Stefan Jacoby, president and CEO of Volkswagen of America, in speaking with The Detroit News.

He said the Phaeton will again take its former place as VW's high-end sedan, as part of a plan to be present in each major market segment. So there you have it - the Phaeton most likely will be returning, just not in the form of the updated model we're seeing right now.
