#HoneymoonGoals: Korean Couple Drives a Hummer to Europe!
Bora Bora, Fiji, The Maldives, Venice, Ängelholm, Martinique, Crete. US News has all but one of those destinations listed as one of the top honeymoon locations. Yet one couple went to that not-top destination for their honeymoon.
Bora Bora, Fiji, The Maldives, Venice, Ängelholm, Martinique, Crete. US News has all but one of those destinations listed as one of the top honeymoon locations. Yet one couple went to that not-top destination for their honeymoon.
Jang and Sunny were recently married, and decided to travel to Europe for their honeymoon via automobile. The car they chose was a Hummer H1. Being that I am not fluent in Korean, details were tricky to find, but here is what I observed via their Instagram (@hummer_world_tour) with huge help of Google Translate.
[Post from March 30, 2017] April 16: the couple was set to leave Seoul for the Eurasian crossing. Around May they were set to enter Germany. The plan was Russia - Mongolia - Kazakhstan - Ukraine - Poland - Czech Republic - Germany. After Germany, they would return to Korea and do a Western Europe tour in the future. This photo is pretty cool!
[Post from April 15, 2017] What appeared to be their final fuel stop before departing South Korea.
[Post from April 15, 2017] They appear to leave South Korea for a 24 hour ferry into Vladivostok, Russia.
[Post from April 17, 2017] Hello, Vladivostok!
[Post from April 18, 2017] The location is unclear (presumably Russia) but they announce plans to drive 1,000 km per day over 13 days to their destination.
[Post from April 19, 2017] While the newlywed’s mood had probably been high, the temperatures weren’t! In this photo, the license plate is also quite visible. They appeared to put an English translation of their plate on the front, along with a South Korean flag.
[Post from April 20, 2017] A progress report!
[Post from April 23, 2017] The couple stops by a wedding in a Russian Cathedral!
[Post from April 25, 2017] They meet with the Mongolian Hummer Club!
[Post from April 28, 2017] It appears that Mongolia is not quite a dreamland. The translation reads:
“ Mongolia is too fussy Follow navigation Pass between mountains and mountains There are no roads and grasslands and deserts all over Compass report. Tea and body discharge ㅜ More than four months driving in Japan I remember more of driving yesterday. 1,200 km to the border Go again! It is a pity that I can not upload the video. I've put a lot of footage into the video. Local internet is not good. I can not upload videos I will post a blog later.”
[Post from April 28, 2017] We get a glimpse of the inside of the Hummer. Also, the 1,000 km per day target was too much of a stretch, as they only covered 700 km in 16 hours of driving.
[Post from April 29, 2017] Posts are scarce due to Internet connectivity, but we get a video!
[Post from May 1, 2017] This photo was taken at the Mongolian border.
[Post from May 1, 2017] The Russian border was closed, and the Hummer was having issues with what appeared to be the tires.
[Post from May 1, 2017] It must have been a frustrating day. Per the translation:
“Mongolia It does not work. Suffered from falling into clay The run flat is broken in the tire. Heavy-spoke shoulder springs are also broken The stupendous off-road of Mongolia Parts arrive by plane tomorrow However, there is no repair shop available for repairs. I'll have to do some maintenance.”
[Post from May 2, 2017] The parts arrived, and thanks to Mongolian friends, the truck was repaired and ready to go!
[Post from May 2, 2017] Repairs included: Tire maintenance, swap springs, shock absorber, fuel filter replacement, and an oil change. The cost according to Google Translate: 70,000 won, or $62 USD (55 EUR, 48 GBP, 56035 North Korean Won, 814 South African Rand, 3508 Russian Ruble).
[Post from May 2, 2017] Another video, and a very thankful post towards the people who helped get the Hummer fixed.
[Post from May 4, 2017] McDonald’s in Omsk, Russia.
[Post from May 7, 2017] A walkaround video of the truck, and we can also see some of the trip sponsors, such as Sonic Motorsports, Hankook, and more.
[Post from May 8, 2017] A photo in front of Saint Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow, not far from the Kremlin!
[Post from May 10, 2017] A photo at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. They made it to Germany!
[Post from May 13, 2017] The photo was taken in Frankfurt. The translation includes a long, updated plan:
“Tomorrow, Moscow! The bluff that had been stopped for a while is departing again. Porsche Tour of Germany I did a good tour of Switzerland for a week. We will leave for Russia and start touring Europe. # Russia: # 1 night sightseeing in Moscow # Latvia, # Lithuania: Route to Europe Passing the Nude # Poland: # Warsaw 1 night # Germany: # Berlin, # Duesseldorf # Netherlands: # Eindhoven # Belgium: # Brussel # France: # Calais # United Kingdom: # London France: # Paris # Spain: # Barcelona France: # Montpellier, # Marseille, # Nice #Monaco # Italy: # Milan # Switzerland: Rousseln, Bern, Basel Germany: # After parking in Frankfurt # Return to Korea I wrote about the schedule in May. First of all, please let me know your travel information.”
[Post on May 15, 2017] We have not seen too many photos of the couple, but here we have one of them in front of Saint Basil’s Cathedral.
[Post on May 16, 2017] Another change of plans! The Western Europe trip was delayed, while they will instead travel from Saint Petersburg into Finland, Sweden, Norway, and then Denmark!
[Post on May 18, 2017] The crew leaves Finland for Sweden.
[May 22, 2017] The crew arrives to the Koenigsegg factory, where they were greeted by Koenigsegg employees who appreciated the effort put into this trip!
From there, I have not found any large update on their whereabouts, though I have seen posts from them in Germany. Where do you think they should go before driving back to South Korea? A full Western Europe tour? Maybe even ship the Hummer to the USA to go completely around the world? Maybe the CarThrottle headquarters in London? Comment below!

And the winning article for most tedious one I’ve written goes to…
If I could read Korean then this would be a great article, but I can’t unfortunately
I can’t read Korean either. That’s why when writing this, I used Google Translate to give summaries.
Sorry to disturb the peace, but..
GET OFF THE PORSCHE!!!!!
Haha I sorta thought the same thing
“I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more, cause my hummer sucked up all my gas”
Good to see a Hummer being used properly
Firstly, MURICAAAAA! Secondly, how much money did they have to spend on gasoline?!
I’m pretty sure they’re diesel, but yes it must of been an expensive fuel bill.
There is or was a group of venezuelans that did expeditions with a couple of H1s that in the course of 20 years have taken the same vehicles across all 5 continents and 500km driven with VEN license plates. I dont know much, but when I was a kid I remember spotting one at a car show.
Life goals. Now thats what a HUMMER is ment to do👏
So cool!
Driving a hummer through europe?! Have they gone mad?
You how much petrol costs over here?
Diesel fuel for this one. They had trip sponsors who may have covered the cost, but they said that diesel in Europe costs way more than in South Korea.
I just want to know how that conversation went on.
“Yes, a Hummer H1, that is definatly the excellent vehicle for our trip through Europe”
That means that this couple has spent around $25,000 (US Dollars) to travel there.
$25,035.59 to be exact.
