Here's A McLaren 720S Laying Down A 9.7sec Quarter-Mile

This completely standard 720S clocked what's thought to be the fastest quarter-mile run for the model

We have a fresh round of look at how bonkers-fast the McLaren 720S is news for you today, as an example of the British supercar has just clocked an astonishing 9.7sec quarter-mile. The 720S in question completed the run - thought to be the fastest ever for the model - at ATCO Raceway in New Jersey, crossing the line at an astonishing 147mph.

This is the first time we’ve seen a 720S dispatch a standing-quarter in less time than a McLaren P1. And in less time than a Porsche 918 Spyder or LaFerrari, for that matter.

Drag Times reports that the owner used tyre warmers in place of the usual pre-run burnout, and the conditions were said to be ideal, with low humidity and the mercury hovering around the 40 degree mark.

It should come as no surprise that the 720S is a tad more powerful than advertised…

At this rate, we can expect the 720S’ possible LT variant to hit the mid or possibly even the low 9s… Damn McLaren, you crazy.

There’s a lot of cars which take longer to 60 than this beast needs to do the 1/4 mi.
