Growing up on a diet of World Rally Championship highlights and lengthy Gran Turismo 2 sessions, a life in cars was as good as inevitable for Matt.

He took his first steps as a motoring journalist with features in specialist print titles including BMW Car, Land Rover Owner and Retro Cars, switching to online media when joining Car Throttle in 2013. Then a relatively young start-up, Matt worked in a small team helping grow CT into one of the biggest automotive brands on the planet, working his way up to the position of editor in the process.

Starting in early 2022, Matt moved over to then-Car Throttle sister brand Auto Express for around a year and a half to work as the title’s deputy executive editor, specialising in commercial content and long-form features.

After CT was acquired by Crash Media Group in the middle of 2023, Matt moved back to the brand, taking on a new role as group editor of both CT and motorcycle website Visordown, tapping into his passions for two and four-wheeled vehicles.

Matt has tested hundreds of cars over the years on both road and track and continues to evaluate the latest key models while also interviewing key industry figures amidst a period of significant change for the car world.

Having owned an eclectic mix of performance cars including a Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 ‘Cosworth’ and an Alfa Romeo 145 Cloverleaf - often as a student with limited resources to keep the things running - Matt’s diverted his attention in recent years to more practical cars to help indulge his outdoorsy hobbies, including a Skoda Yeti and a camper-converted Volkswagen Transporter. He hasn’t put it on big steelies. Yet.
