Why You Need To Start Getting Super Excited For Project Cars 2

While WMD and Slightly Mad Studios are hard at work on Project Cars 2, no one has forgotten about the original. Adding new content to the existing Project Cars game is actually part of a strategy that will help the second instalment start out on the right foot!

While we sit at home enjoying the masterpiece that is Project CARS, thousands of people are already at work on the sequel. Unlike the original, the work on Project CARS 2 has been kept very quiet. Contributors are not allowed under contract to share any information, but that hasn’t stopped a few unnamed folks to spill some details with their favourite car community.

The common expectation for a game sequel is that it will be “bigger and better” than the last. It’s not often the outcome, but you can be sure Project CARS 2 will do just that. The original goal to launch Project CARS 2 with over 125 cars has already been shattered. We’ve confirmed that over 200 models will be included at the time of release, with an estimated 50 new cars to be introduced in the first year through DLC packs and the On Demand programme. The On Demand program is already active for the original game as a way for developers to provide monthly new free content to users based on their feedback in the forums.

To understand how Project CARS 2 will feel compared to the original, imagine Project CARS as a beta test…one giant, functioning, beautifully polished beta test. Each motorsport genre, game mode, car model, track and more has been carefully planned and released at times to measure their impact on the users. The wildly popular content is expanded upon, while the not-so-fascinating content is reworked into something a bit more intriguing for the next release. The apps that compliment Project CARS have been another testing opportunity for developers. Certain elements like those in the improved Crew Chief app will be implemented in the next game from the start.

To the surprise of no one, it was eSports that took the stage in 2015. Slightly Mad Studios had already prepared to introduce Project CARS drivers to worldwide competitions, but it was the partnership with ESL that boosted the competitive spirit to the next level. Now an officially recognised eSport, Project CARS offers several championships throughout the year in which winners will be rewarded with hefty prizes. From day one, Project CARS 2 will have eSport championships easily accessible from the main menu. Races will be expanded from drivers only to entire crews, although it is unclear if full team races will be available from launch. As for the original game, season two of the Driver Network Cup has already been confirmed with even better sponsors and bigger prizes.

Project CARS 2 is expected to be released this year, although it will likely be in December. In addition to the features that have been built upon from the original game, the newest title will also focus on engineering. With Project CARS Academy, players will learn more about how to understand parts, specs and tuning. A customisable track will be included in the base game with the sole purpose of testing your performance beasts before slaying the competition. Our secret source tells us that players should get excited about the new game because it has such a variety of cars and tracks that we’ve never seen before. They add that, “You’ll be able to race in any weather, at any time, on any surface with any type of car against any other players. Total freedom.” Concept cars and banned race cars are just two of the new vehicle types hitting later this year, when the sequel emerges on PS4, PC, Xbox One and Steam OS.

If you’re just dying to get your hands on new content, you don’t have to wait long. Tuesday, 26th January, marks the next expansion: the StanceWorks Track Expansion. This new pack will include Mad Mike’s crazy Mazda Miata, a KTM X-Bow R, a BMW 2002 and a BMW 1-Series M-Coupe. The pack’s new road course in the highlands of Scotland will be the perfect place to test out some of these beauties.

I really hope the handling won’t be as bad as Pcars 1 which could have been an awesome sim with nice content. Handling is key imo.

Oh, it better be better. The first Project Cars was terrible! I have only like 4 hours of that game played on Steam. I’m not pre-ordering this time. They better prove themselves first.

Because they know people will fall for their BS again. I still can’t believe they’re crowdfunding AGAIN though. What a scam.

No.

Stop this.

Stop starting hype trains.

You all remember how much hype there was surrounding the original Project CARS. It was a huge disappointment, and has wound up being one of the most DLC-gouging pieces of garbage to hit the gaming ecosystem this decade. It’s been out for 9 months at this point, and still, in order to get the full game, you need to shell out $50 for the game itself and a further $40 for all of the DLC.

Now you’re starting to hype the sequel that should—for all intents and purposes—just be a series of expansion modules for the original game.

By hyping this game this far before launch, and this soon after the disappointment that is the original game, you’re telling these developers that it’s alright to continue their business practices the way they have been. You’re telling them that they can throw out an incomplete, buggy mess of a game; then start selling you huge swathes of content that should have been in the base game to begin with.

If this trend keeps up, we WILL see another gaming crash, because games will continue to push the envelope until people reach the tipping point where they refuse to buy the games anymore.

One question: Would you recommend buying Project Cars only for Le Mans and the LMP-Cars. Also, do you know any alternatives with LMP-Cars and Le Mans?

They wil probably release article “Why You Should Not Start Getting Super Excited For Project Cars 2” later this week. Great comment, but it won’t change anything here.
