Anadol STC-16

Turkey is not known for its automotive industry, despite the efforts of Anadol. Starting out in 1966 with a series of small, cheap cars that weren’t exactly lusted after. But then along came the STC-16.

Developed as a sports model, the STC-16 received styling that was similar yet at the same time very different to that of contemporary European sports cars, a 1.6 litre Ford engine, and also some interesting ideas for what ‘STC’ meant - Super Turkish Monster being my favourite. Sadly, the car fell foul of the 1973 oil crisis, with costs of the production of fibreglass skyrocketing.

I found out about this car by accident. I’m still surprised that Turkey made a car like this.
