Corolla 1.6 16v vvt-i rough idle, normal?
Hello everyone, i purchased a toyota corolla E12 1.6 16v vvti a few weeks ago and i noticed the car shakes somewhat when idling in traffic of just idling in general, the idle point is at 600rpms when the car is warmed up and i am just wondering if this considered ‘normal’?

600rpm seems a bit low for idling and the shaking shouldnt happen.
So i gues you just nees to set the idle a bit higher. Don’t know how it works on yours but on mine (95 starlet 4efte) you can manually adjust the throttle body
Yeah i can manually adjust the throttle with an allen key, i just find it weird that its shaking but i will turn it up, thanks.

You can try to resolve this by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, when the engine is on its operational temperature. Then reconnect it, and restart your car soon after. It should be solved, if it isn’t something serious.
I will try this, ive read somewhere that the ecu relearns the idle point and such. Thanks
You can also try to use the OBD and see if there are any codes
Sounds like a worn out engine mount or transmission mount . To verify , when complaint occurs place transmission in neutral. The shake should go away if its a mount worn out
Thats what i thought at first but its neither of those, i checked them both but without any luck
My sister has the same car and it does the same thing, i don’t what causes it but it hasn’t caused any problems so far
Yea it doesn’t cause any problems for me, its just like sitting in a vibrator which is less pleasant
Three mounts in all .
Front , side engine , and lower rear transmission.
Suprised all are in sound shape , but good enough (your word) . Is the check engine light on ?
