15,000 kms with my 525i - short review
š„ today is the day. Iāve finally hit 115,000 kms.
That means I drove 15,000 kms since I bought my 525i in February.
In the meantime Iāve established a love-hate-relationship with my ride.
The things I love:
- The smoothness and quiteness of its sixpack.
- The roomy interior and the still impressive material quality (itās a 15 years old car btw)
- The comfortable way of driving. The overall adjustment is rather soft due to stock seats & suspension and the 15ā ex-winter tires
- Autobahn driving on the left lane (I usually drive between 150 and 200 kmh when there arenāt any speed limits)
- Overtaking on the LandstraĆe (German equivalent to British B roads). The Ting goes kickdown, rev up, 4000 rpm, fire!
The things I hate:
- Unreliability. I already had 3 breakdowns.
No. 1 & 2 - Car didnāt start due to electric failure. Batterie and heating system amp(?) got replaced (190 + 180 ā¬). Luckily, Iāve finally got the money for the amp back, cause this was a warranty repair. Took me 3 months including several phone calls and visits to dealership until those insert insult here finally paid. - Fuel consumption. Kinda obvious I know, but I drive 60 kms daily which I didnāt knew before Iāve bought the car.
- Honestly, itās too long for my garage yard. Well, Iāve bought the car before Iāve found my apartment. Parking always takes 1,5 to 2 minutes due to itās length.
- Itās a bone stock base model. Well the first owner, an elderly man from Augsburg, born in 1927, obviously just wanted a big beamer with a not-too-big but also not-too-small engine. The only extras he ordered are Automatic, PDC front and back and an automatic AC. Thatās all and I guess that the last two extras were standard anyway. So neither leather seats, sunroof nor cruise control were ordered.
- Every modern 150 hp Turbo car can beat me.
Yes Iāve got 190 hp, but itās an NA engine combined with an outdated 5 speed Auto and heavy weight (1.7 t).

Nice!
How much did you pay for it? 100k km is extremely hard to come by right now on E39s.
Iāve got a manual sedan with twice the mileage, though with steering wheel on the other side :o)
