Replacing Cam Seals / Timing belt / Sparkplugs- EJ25 SOHC Motors
All three of these jobs are easy but time consuming. They dont require any special tools, except a 1/2 in drive torque wrench and chain wrench. The spark plugs are easy to get to, despite what people say. The sparkplugs for cylinders #2 and #4 can be removed after the battery and wiper fluid resivoir are removed. The other 2 can be replaced after the intake resonater is removed. Just have a lot of extensions because the sparkplugs are deep in the heads. The videos here explain very well how to remove and install the timing belt. After the belt is off, use a 17 mm socket and chain wrench to take off the camshaft sprocket. This allows acess to the cam seals. Pull the leaky seal out, and use a piece of PVC and rubber mallet to drive in the new seal. After that, just put everything back together.

Will be honest, I’m impressed you did this with the engine in the car. Everyone I talk to says this is a engine out of car job. Nice job.
Thanks! Once the radiator and cooling fan were out, there was at least a foot of space to work with. And if your Baja has this leak, its probably fine to leave it. I probably could have left the old seal in there, but it got annoying having to check the oil every other day, and that it soaked the underside of the car in oil.
I️ wish I️ could do all of that my self I️ would save so much money I’m just so afraid that I️ will mess something up or it won’t start back after I’m done “fixing it”.
Honestly, I was afraid of the exact same thing before I did this. I was afraid to do it since ive never done something this major to my car. But I followed the Chiltons Manual for the repair exactly like it said, and I watched tons of youtube videos about it before and during the repair. As long as you have a good refrence manual and watch videos on how its done, its very unlikely youll mess up. Really follow the steps, triple check the timing marks, and youll be fine, believe me. I saved around $400, including the money I spent on the new seals, sparkplugs, coolant, and oil. The dealership wanted around $500, so if you decide to do it yourself, its totally worth it
