Hardcore Japanese fans of Kamui Kobayashi can now get their hands on the ultimate piece of fan memorabilia; this special-edition Caterham Seven 250 R. The former Sauber driver joined Caterham F1 this season, which, along with Caterham Cars, is owned by Malaysian businessman Tony Fernandes. With Japan being Caterham Cars’ second biggest export market, it’d be rude not to do some sort of tie-up with Kamui, and this Japan-only limited run of cars is the result.

It’s based on the standard Seven 250 R, which packs a 1.6-litre, 125bhp Ford Sigma engine. It has a limited-slip differential, will crack 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds, and top out at 122mph. Kamui himself has had a hand in altering various parts of the car, which has been changed to a single-seater layout with an aluminium tonneau cover sitting over the former passenger area. The car is painted gloss black, while the front wings and rear wing protectors are finished in carbonfibre with an added Caterham green lacquer which matches Kobayashi’s race car.

The exterior is finished with a number 10 - Kamui’s race number - on the nose, and just in case its owners exhibit any of the F1 driver’s trademark bouts of over-exuberance, there’s a handy rollover hoop at the back.

The inside has received a few personal touches, too. Kobayashi’s logo is stitched into the head rest of the carbonfibre driver’s seat, while the carbonfibre dashboard - which also features a splash of Caterham green lacquer - will be signed by the man himself.

If you’re tempted - and live in Japan - you’d best be quick; only 10 are up for grabs at ¥6,000,000 (£35k) apiece. It’s on sale now.
