GT86 Weight Reduction (Bro!)

Sorry about the title, but now’s the serious bit.

As many of you should know by now, I’m looking for a Toyobaru as my first drive, specifically the GT86, and though it already weighs roughly 1,240 kgs (or 2,735 lbs in Imperial measurements), I wanna try and rip out some of the weight while keeping it a DD.

The main thing I’m in hot pursuit for is better fuel consumption, I mean yes it already does 36.2 MPG (UK
mileage) but to get it closer to 40 would satisfy me, because the Toyobaru as we know it is a proper, bona fide driver’s car, and an utter tonne of fun to drive, but to eke out a little more MPG would mean I can have more fun for longer on a single tank.

It should already do around 475 miles per tank, but here in the UK, it’d cost me about £69.14 to fill the tank from empty, which works out at approximately £0.15 per mile, my source for this finding was www.fuel-economy.co.uk/calc.html which probably isn’t a reliable source, but it gave me a rough idea on how much it’d be per tank to fill.

Examples of what I can’t remove and why.

Spare Tyre: Laws won’t let me. :/
Rear seats: If I give friends or family a lift.
Air Con: As much as I’d like to, I sweat like Lee Evans.

Any ideas, please don’t hesitate to suggest, and please let me know what your choices weigh roughly. (In kgs if possible.)

Maybe carbon hood, trunk… And getting rid of the radio and sound system fully. You can still have spare tyre, air con… Also plastic insted of glass. Also Fog laps are useless. Also maybe get carbon ceramic brakes, since all 4 weight less than one standard brake…

It sounds like an idea, but I’m trying to do it as cheaply as possible, I’ve gotta start off small…

Also, do you have any idea on how much the front fog lights weigh?

you can save fuel by changing your driving style, amongst other things. check out ecomodder dot com. there is a huge list of mpg friendly mods, and mpg friendly driving style tips on there. it helped me improve from 19 mpg to 26 mpg in my ford.

I’m not driving a Prius, now think about what you said and kindly leave me be, I’m NOT an enviromentalist! 😡

And besides, I’m only 16, I haven’t started driving yet, I’m not gonna drive slow, otherwise I’ll be classed as a sub-human, and that will make me the most hated kid in college!

Just a quick reminder, if you have any ideas, please don’t hesitate to suggest, I’ll tell you if I think I’ll do it or not, and why.

Oh yeah, this is invalid because I need to do it as cheaply as TomislavCelić#CTthegame has the right idea.

Stripping the interior?

Stereo, A/C, Rear seats, and Spare tyre are a no go just to let you know.

I am considering a carpet delete, maybe a front seat delete (swapping them for racing seats.)

TheMindGarage How will a longer final drive ratio affect the Toyobaru if you don’t mind me asking?

Basically it would make the gears slightly higher/longer so if you’re on the motorway in 6th gear, your engine will be at lower RPMs and get better fuel economy. This isn’t always true, but for the Toyobaru, 6th gear at 70mph on stock gearing means about 3,500 RPM which is really quite high. If you overdo it you’ll lose acceleration though - it’s about finding a balance.
