Gearbox bearing issues?

Hi guys! I own a 2008 Swift 1.3 which i love dearly. The last few days there has been a slight whine while accelerating and engine braking, in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear (and reverse). When pressing down the clutch or shifting in to 4th or 5th the whine stops immediately. Today the whine has suddenly gotten alot worse (it sounds horrible, definitely sounds like i shouldn’t be driving it about). I’m pretty sure one of the gearbox bearings is broken and has to be replaced, which i guess will be quite an expensive job as they have to take the whole gearbox apart. Do you guys think this is a reasonable assumption or have any other ideas on what the issue could be? Any estimates on what it will cost? What are my options? I’ve only just finished university and started working (<2 months) so i am not really in a position where I can be throwing lots of money about. Thank you very much!

Pretty bad. It sounds like it is tearing itself apart. It has had new gearbox oil last month when it went to the garage for a major service, so i doubt that would be what’s causing it. Thanks for the reply!

I also have same problem, I’m waiting for the bill but it’s between 1000 euros and 2000 euros.

I have actually had it repaired since (it did turn out to be the gearbox bearings). I actually only payed 700€, but I did ask them specifically not to replace the clutch (it was almost new anyway) which saved me about 600€.
