Here’s What The New Four-Cylinder Porsche Boxster 718 Sounds Like From Behind The Wheel

Does the Boxster still sound as good now it's switched to turbo four-pot power? Thanks to this onboard video - shot during the first round of passenger rides for journalists - we get a good idea!

A few weeks ago, Porsche confirmed what we’d long been expecting: the Boxster is switching from flat-sixes to an all-new range of turbocharged flat-fours. As we explained in our in-depth look at the new ‘718 Boxster’, the new engines are much more powerful, but how do they sound? This onboard video gives us a good idea.

You can also just about hear some engine noise in the new video below from Porsche, although it’s drowned out by some thumping music.

Our verdict on the new engine note? Certainly not a bad noise, but not a patch on the old sixes.

What do you think?

It doesn’t sound bad but since you can have a similar exhaust note on small hatchbacks, it loses its exotic status.

I wonder if anyone will try fitting unequal length headers to make it sound like a Subaru WRX…

You DO realize Subaru started using the boxer engine in 1966 and Porsche began using them in 1938….on top of that the boxer engine was a German invention.

Sounds good at idle, not that good when accelerating. I give 4/6

To be honest it sounds like a WRX with equel length headers. It also sounds a bit fake, either some speaker action or noise channels going on there.

So it sounds like a BRZ with some noise effects pumped from the speakers
