Having a tipper trailer on a semi truck makes the process of unloading cargo a lot easier. But you’d better make sure it’s lowered before you hit the road, especially when there’s a low bridge along your route of travel.

Yesterday, a Canadian truck driver learned that lesson the hard way. While travelling down a busy motorway at full speed, the truck’s trailer full of corn was somehow left in the elevated position. Sure enough, it got into a fight with a pedestrian overpass on Autoroute 40 in Repentigny, Quebec… and lost.

Luckily, nobody was injured in the spectacular collision. But the crash spilled the trailer’s full load all over the road, forcing the partial closure of Autoroute 40’s eastbound lane for several hours as crews cleaned up the corny mess.

At this point, it’s not clear if the crash was caused by driver error or a possible electrical/mechanical failure. But incidents like these have sparked debate about equipping transport trucks with a mandatory warning system to alert the driver if the dump trailer is raised while driving.

This is when a slammed truck is superior to a normal truck.
