This Rolls-Royce Is The Police Interceptor We Wish Was Real
A British police force got a major transport upgrade at the weekend as Rolls-Royce donated a Ghost Black Badge to the fight against crime. For the day, anyway. And, if we’re honest, it didn’t actually fight any crime.
Sussex Police in the south of England took delivery of this modified Ghost for its annual Chichester Police Station Open Day, where presumably the force takes the chance to remind people that they won’t clobber anyone over the head with a baton unless they absolutely have to.
The blue and yellow reflective decals were applied to the car’s Andalusian White paintwork, while if the police had actually been given permission to drive it their buttocks would have been caressed by black and tan contrast leather seats. On the roof the company added a police light bar.
Rolls-Royce is based not far from Chichester, at its Goodwood factory. A team from the company went with the car to collect donations for a charity called Chestnut Tree House, a children’s hospice in Sussex.
Sadly, the police Rolls was a one-day thing and it has now been put back to factory spec. Apparently, people at the event had started rumours that it was going to be given to the chief constable to biff around in, but the famous brand quickly stepped on that idea – much to the force’s disappointment, we’re sure.

Why would you want a Rolls Royce as a police interceptor? Police cars must be sedans (for transporting busted people) and have great performance. Something like a Tesla Model S, but with stripped luxury components.
Realistically, you wouldn’t want one. But it looks cool, so…
Pretty sure the Rolls is a ‘sedan’ and has pretty decent performance…

The British police can and will always get their hands on expensive cars just for events, but will stick with the diesel Astras and BMWs when it actually comes to highway pursuits…

I feel like police should use more hot-hatches. I know Surrey Police have an unmarked S3 and it seems to be very handy.
Maybe cars like Golf R (cheaper S3), Cupra 300, Ford Focus RS and others would suit.
They are affordable (or as expensive as most other cars they currently use), relatively fuel-efficient, reliable, practical (can fit all the gear plus the criminals in the back seat), AWD (can be used in bad weather or driven through a grass field) and are fast. In fact, due to compact size and agility, probably faster than most supercars in urban conditions
