This Race-Spec Toyota 86 Cup Reminds Us That We're Suckers For A Good Livery

It's funny how much of a difference a simple vinyl wrap or graphics set can make to your feelings for that car, and this lightly modified GT86 has reminded us of one reason why we'll always forgive it for not having more power
This Race-Spec Toyota 86 Cup Reminds Us That We're Suckers For A Good Livery

Let us get one thing out of the way so we can concentrate on the good news: this fast-looking GT86 has no extra power or performance, unless it comes from slick tyres.

Other than a little extra stability at the rear courtesy of a race-spec wing, this American ‘86 Cup’ racer is no more capable in a straight line than the street-ready car. But look at that livery. This is a damn fine-looking race car. The red and white graphics look like they’re straight out of a 2000s video game. I’m sure I used to dress my cars pretty much just like this in Need For Speed: Underground.

It’s set to make an appearance at a single round of the Pirelli World Challenge; the two races at Utah’s Motorsports Campus next weekend. We only have one picture of it, sadly, but it’s a looker. As fans of the 86 just as it is (and when it gets power boosts) we might be a little bit in love.

There’s just one really really small issue:

It doesn’t have any more power. 😤

I really like the idea behind the GT86 and the car itself (even with the power it has), I like the wheels and the livery, the rollcage and even the #letsgoplaces hashtag

Someone needs to convert one to be road legal, id have one in a heartbeat if my bank account allowed it. It’d be the P1 LM of the common man.
