Ford Performance Has Started Work On The Next Fiesta And Focus ST For A 2020 Debut
As far as performance car bang-for-buck goes, we’ve always said the Ford Fiesta ST is hard to beat. And while the Focus ST is less polished, it’s also stonking value for money, so we can’t wait to see what these two are replaced by. The good news is, now the Focus RS is ‘out of the way’, Ford Performance has started the development of the ST twin’s successors.
Speaking to Autocar Tyrone Johnson - chief engineer for the Focus RS - confirmed that the ST Fiesta and Focus are next on his ‘to-do’ list post RS. Hopefully that to-do list also involves adding a limited-slip differential to the next Focus ST to make it a little less wayward than the current one.
He declined to give any dates, but with the next generation Fiesta and Focus ranges expected in around 2018, Autocar is speculating a 2020 release for the ST editions.
But how about a Ford Performance Mondeo? Unfortunately that’s not on the cards, according to Johnson: “It’s a pretty big car and the rivals are now offering around 500bhp. I think that’s a big ask for the Mondeo….Making a fast Mondeo fit our HP2 category [the same as the Focus RS] would be very difficult.”

We EXPLORERs have lost FOCUS during our EXPEDITION. We need some RANGER to ESCORT us to go over the EDGE and ESCAPE this GALAXY. After we finish TRANSITing from mayhem to peace we’ll have a great FIESTA with tea inFUSIONs.

How about a Ford performance Transit?
There is actually a mk1 , mk2 and mk3 ford transit supervan. But i agree thry should bring the supervan back because as suggested by my user name i am a huge fan.
You haven’t heard of the m-sport transits? They aren’t modified engine wise but god they look brilliant. Come with seats in the back and you can customise it however you like for trackdays etc!
Anyone else think that the Ecoboost Mustang and Mondeo are too similar a size and prospect of a car for them both to really take off in terms of sales and appeal? Surely one will overshadow the other. The new Mondeo is vast and fairly unattractive, so a relatively economical Mustang and the performance reputation the name has seems a bit of a competitor..
A Mustang has only two doors, isn’t avialable as Turnier (over 80% of the previous gen Mondeos were Turniers) and gets a much higher insurance quote than a Mondeo with similar engine. A performance model of the Mondeo is unneccessary, we indeed have got the Mustang for that, but it’s not like either one would overshadow the other. They are too different from each other.

Today Ford hot hatches are very good… I can wait until 2020 , no problem… Lol
In terms of hot hatches, Ford has it, c’mon Honda bring back the awesomeness from the cars you had in the 1990s and 2000s
I think a hot, or at least ‘warm’ Mondeo would be great and should be easy! (I’m no expert). Ford USA has a sport version of the Fusion (the American re-name for the Mondeo) with the 2.7 twin turbo EcoBoost V6 motor good for 327hp. Even if it’s not M3 quick, it would still give the 340i/S4 etc. a good run for their money. It would be nice to see something else in the Ford range get some sporty attention apart from the usual Fiesta and Focus.
Who gives a sh*t about Monedo, what we really want is a Falcon sold worldwide.

they should make a Ford GT-powered V6, RWD version of the mondeo wagon and don’t put any crazy visual stuffs. so just a sleeper
My only wishlist for these cars: LSDs and and IRS in the Fiesta (not gonna happen, but oh well)
