10 Highlights From Last Weekend’s Spectacular Motorsport Action

We’re here to run you through last weekend's motorsport highs and lows, from epic F1 drifts to Nascar shoves and the madness that is rallycross

F1 rookie Alexander Rossi found out the hard way that the Marina Bay Street Circuit doesn’t take any prisoners during a small mistake in his first practice session as a race driver for Manor.

Fortunately, he had a better time of it over the rest of the weekend, even maging to pull off this beautiful drift through the first couple of turns.

2. Caught on camera

Undoubtedly the most bizarre moment from the Singapore Grand Prix was the track invader casually walking along the track mid-way through the race. 27-year-old British national Yogvitam Pravin Dhokia was later arrested, and the whole thing was caught on CCTV. Reports say he could face six months in prison.

In motorsport, it doesn’t get much better than seeing the FIA WEC field charging towards Turn 1 of the stunning Circuit of the Americas at full speed (although an LMP1 lap at night is pretty damn cool too).

Endurance racing is far from boring and that was proven once again at the 6 Hours of COTA. We saw plenty of overtakes and incidents – including hefty crashes for the #31 Extreme Speed Motorsports car and the #2 Toyota.

After a late problem for the #18 car, the #17 Porsche 919 Hybrid took the lead, with Mark Webber, Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard scoring the overall win despite a one-minute stop/go penalty. The #26 G-Drive Racing machine won in LMP2, with the #91 Porsche and #72 Ferrari winning LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am.

The anger built up and Harvick shoved Johnson before they had to be separated. Denny Hamlin overcame a spin early on and moved to the lead at the final restart to take victory and advance to the second round of the Nascar Chase for the Sprint Cup.

Mason Mingus missed the pit lane during the Nascar Camping World Truck series race at Chicagoland Speedway and hit the grass hard, launching his car into the air. The race also saw a driver hit a pit crew member but fortunately no one was injured. John Hunter Nemechek was the race winner.

The Blancpain Endurance Series finale took place at the Nurburgring and, with one last chance to impress, it was a dramatic race. The #58 McLaren of Kevin Estre, Rob Bell and Shane van Gisbergen won but it was Alex Buncombe, Katsumasa Chiyo and Wolfgang Reip’s #23 Nissan in third that took the title.
