The Hyundai N Vision 74 concept made the entire automotive world sit up and take notice back in 2022. Taking inspiration from the semi-obscure Giugiaro-designed Pony Coupe concept from 1974, it updated it with a high-performance hydrogen-electric powertrain and a healthy dose of wild cyberpunk styling cues.

Ever since its debut, we’ve been clamouring for it to see production, and now, we could be a step closer. South Korean newspaper The Korea Economic Daily has claimed that Hyundai is gearing up to launch a production N Vision 74 in 2026 as a limited-run halo model with supercar performance.

The report, translated from Korean, claims that Hyundai is currently delivering specs of a production car to suppliers, and that it’ll start work on a verification prototype this August ahead of a production launch in June 2026.

The paper also reckons it’s got hold of specs for the production car. Like the concept, it’s said to have a rear-wheel drive electric powertrain powered by hydrogen fuel cells. A power output of around 764bhp is touted, giving the car a claimed 0-62mph time of three seconds. Hyundai is also apparently planning on taking it to the Nürburgring (quelle surprise), perhaps with a view of setting a new hydrogen-powered lap record.

Interestingly, the report claims that the production version will feature gullwing doors, unlike the conventionally doored prototype. It says that Hyundai plans to build just 200 units and that it’ll cost about 500 million Korean Won (around £285,000 at current exchange rates). The decision to put the N Vision 74 into production is said to be spearheading Hyundai’s efforts to create “a hydrogen ecosystem” as it increases its investment in the technology.

Of course, all of this is to be taken with a big grain of salt until we hear anything official from Hyundai, but it’s far from the first time there have been rumours of the car-making production, with Hyundai chairman and CEO Chung Eui-Sun said to be a significant backer of the project.

Knowing the magic Hyundai can create with a big-power electric drivetrain and some nostalgic styling in the form of the Ioniq 5 N, we’ll be watching closely for any solid confirmation of the N Vision 74 making production. It might just make up for the untimely deaths of the i20 and i30 N.
