The BMW M8 Gran Coupe Is A Mean, Green M5 In A Sharp New Suit

Built on the impressive new M5's platform, but with a recipe that promises even more luxury and technology, the four-door M8 Gran Coupe is here to tick all the boxes

BMW has unwrapped the four-door M8 Gran Coupe at the Geneva Motor Show, revealing a green-clad muscle-fest with bronze detailing from the single-piece kidney grille to select spokes on the intricate and gargantuan-looking 19-inch wheels

The near-production grand tourer is the latest performance machine to rejoin the green team, wearing a deep, dark hue called Salève Vert. Green looks like it’s back in fashion among German performance cars – check out the Audi RS4 and RS5.

While this is officially still a concept, what you’re looking at won’t get changed too much before it hits the streets. Maybe the coloured details will drop either to the options list or oblivion, and the hexagonal design language at the front might be softened a little, but it’s close enough.

It’s set to be offered with the same 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 as used in the explosive M5, with the same eight-speed automatic gearbox and an output upwards of 600bhp coursing through the same switchable M xDrive four-wheel drive.

Otherwise, detail for what will become the luxury flagship M-car is scant. We know it has a carbonfibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) roof to save weight and lower the all-important centre of gravity. We know it won’t actually have yellow daytime running lights.

We also understand that the charismatic twin-skin quad exhaust tips might not see the light of day in production, which is a minor shame, but if our driving impressions of the M5 are any guide (and they should be), then we won’t mind if and when we get behind the M8’s wheel.

Look like a bigger M2 with more agressive look but I like it

Doesn’t look as sleek as the teaser made it out to be. It’s a bit bulky in my mind but it still looks sharp as hell, in the literal sense even

If only it wasn’t that paint with the bronze trim. Don’t like the wheels either. This car is gonna take some getting used to
