The Wired New Porsche 911 GT3 RS Has 520bhp And A 9000rpm Redline

So revs. Many performance. Porsche has released the details of the very slightly facelifted 911 GT3 RS, and those stickers come with boosts to the power, noise and rev ceiling

It’s a 911 in a loud colour, with a big wing and obnoxious stickers. You already know exactly what it is: the revised 911 GT3 RS has come out to play.

The reintroduction of standard stickers, missing from the last version, don’t distract from just how little has changed at a glance. It ain’t broke, so Porsche hasn’t fixed it. On the outside, at least…

On the inside things are even juicier and more delicious than ever. Porsche Motorsport has waved its wand and conjured another 28bhp out of the elysian flat-six, taking the output to 520bhp at a new, higher rev ceiling of 9000rpm. Just let us clean the drool off our chins for a second.

Of course, Porsche’s RS track focus means this is still a PDK-equipped car. A tenth of a second has been meted off the official 0-62mph sprint time for a new figure of 3.8 seconds, but since we know Porsche has always enjoyed being a bit conservative on that front, it probably had the time in hand to do that anyway. Top speed stays put at 193mph.

Porsche claims that the (ever-so-slightly) revised front bumper helps improve front end grip, while a few other aero tweaks eke out a little more at the rear, too. Suffice it to say that if you’re not happy with your cornering speeds on a circuit, it’s probably more about your driving style than the car.

The normal list of RS jewellery is present and correct. Plastic windows? Check. Magnesium roof to save 1.1kg? Check. Fire extinguisher and roll cage? Optional. The black bonnet is optional, too, but very cool on this car. Prices will start at £141,000. If you have that sort of change lying around on a side table, you can place your order today.

Porsche really missed an opportunity here. If they’d have made the rev limit 9100, then you could say the redline is over 9000!

Tss… I expected more Porsche!

I don’t know, think I’d rather have a GT3 Touring for my money. If I had any money that is.
