It’s charity auction time once more for a fast Chevrolet! Following on from the sale of the very first Camaro ZL1 1LE - which raised money for United Way - Chevrolet is doing something similar for the 2019 Corvette ZR1.

The first to “retail production” ZR1 to roll off the line will go under the hammer at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale, Arizona on 20 January. This time, the auction will be for the benefit of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which helps wounded veterans through the Building for America’s Bravest program.

“With more than 6,000 veterans employed at GM and more than 50,000 GM retirees who are veterans, GM and Chevrolet are committed to helping those who have given so much for their country,” the US car giant said.

No estimate has been given, but judging by the performance of previous Chevrolet charity auctions - including the ZL1 1LE going for $250,000 and a Corvette Grand Sport netting $170,000 - we’d expect the ZR1 to go for well beyond its $119,995 list price.

The winning bidder will end up with a monstrous 745bhp, 715lb ft slice of sports car badassery, with the power and twist coming from the new ‘LT5’ 6.2-litre supercharged V8. The ZR1 also generates up to 430kg of downforce if specced with the ZTK Performance Package, and has no less than 13 heat exchangers to keep everything at a sensible temperature even when the car’s having its head kicked in on track.

We can’t wait to see the price this first one fetches…
