Bespoke Winter Tyres Launched For The McLaren Sports Series

McLaren prides itself on the fact that its customers like to drive their cars all year round. Most of its models are surprisingly comfortable, after all.

To make that just a little safer in the winter months, McLaren is now offering a bespoke, company-approved Pirelli MC Sottozero tyre option with its own lightweight 14-spoke alloy wheel.

The McLaren Winter Wheels and Tyres Set comes as a set of four, obviously, and comes ready to slot onto any Sports Series model. It’s designed to let owners, particularly in temperate countries where they grit the roads at this time of year, like the UK, protect the ‘summer’ wheels and tyres that came with their car.

In some countries and/or local areas it’s also a legal requirement to have winter boots on your car. McLaren is, to an extent, just meeting customer demand. Pirelli has worked with the company before on bespoke summer tyres, so that relationship was already there.

The Sottozero rubber, in this guise tuned specifically to McLaren’s needs, can reduce a Sports Series car’s sub-seven-degree stopping distance on wet roads by 10 per cent. On snowy roads it’s 20 per cent.

The tyres are available independently of the wheels, too. Any 540C, 570S, 570GT or 570S Spider owner who wants the McLaren-spec winter Pirellis can order them and have them fitted to their regular wheels.
