Chris Harris On The New Porsche Boxster's Unfavourable "Personality Transplant"

Mirroring Harris’ thoughts on the 718 Cayman S in the most recent Top Gear series (this particular video came out before the series before appearing recently on YouTube), the man concludes that there’s a lot to like about the new four-cylinder Boxster, despite the change in noise.

As for our two-penneth, we miss the noise, but it’s hard to ignore the Boxster’s newfound power and improved chassis.

The debate about the 718 Boxster and Cayman’s 2.0-litre and 2.5-litre powerplants will no doubt rumble on for some time. Where do you stand?

The 718 Cayman S PDK is a remarkable car—that is why 75 top automotive critics from 23 countries selected it as the 2017 World Performance Car of the Year over the other two finalists—the Audi R8 and McLaren 570S.

The future is here, and with it comes the turbo charged engines. Car and Driver produces some interesting performance results in their instrumentation based testing. Sound? The car sounds aggressive, sharp, and unapologetic. This is what the new Porsche sounds like, and it is superior to the 981 generation in every aspect of performance.

Zero to 100 mph: 8.7 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 15.2 sec
Zero to 150 mph: 22.8 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 4.4 sec
