Watch The Incoming BMW i8 Spyder Undergo A Little 'Ring Testing
It’s taken a while, but a convertible version of BMW’s i8 is finally on the way. Previewed some time ago by the i Vision concept (below), the breezier version of the i8 is expected to arrive next year, four years after the release of the coupe.
The car has been spotted undergoing testing at the Nurburgring, sporting - along with the fabric roof - what looks like styling tweaks to the front and rear bumpers relative to the coupe version. These will presumably be carried over to the coupe as part of a mid-life update.
Like the tin top i8, we’re anticipating that the convertible will be powered by the same combination of a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-three and an electric motor. In the current i8, that powertrain is good for 357bhp, making for a 0-62mph time of 4.4 seconds. Whether or not the convertible and the inevitable facelifted coupe get a little boost in power, we’ll have to wait and see.
