This Crazy Lotus-Tesla Project Has Maxed Out A Dyno

Shoving some Tesla motors into a Lotus Evora chassis and tweaking them a bit has yielded some eye-popping numbers. RIP tyres

Remember the Lotus-Tesla electric sports car project being put together by OnPointDyno founder and racing driver Sasha Anis? Get ready for some big numbers.

The build, which sees Tesla motors and Chevy Volt batteries engineered into a Lotus Evora chassis, has been progressing nicely and is now at the dyno testing stage. The rear axle was bolted to a conventional dyno to try to establish some numbers, and we’re talking about 441bhp at the wheels… and 2992lb ft of torque. That’s not a typo.

In fact, the car maxed-out the dyno’s capabilities for measuring torque, suggesting it might need a slight detune before attempting to put that muscle down on the road. For another thing, the battery charge percentage was only in the 70s at the time, and we already know that Tesla motors tend to give maximum thrust when they’re running on full charge.

Anis, who has nicknamed the car Blue Lightning, claims that the modified Evora weighs less than 100kg more than a regular Lotus version. It could post some incredible drag times when it’s ready. The build thread is ongoing at LotusTalk.

So a Tesla Roadster reborn?
Eh, I’ll give to her that’s a pretty nice concept.

So much torque even Semis would be jealous.

Woooo go Sasha! Everyone needs to check out the Speed Academy YouTube channel which covers this build as well as tons of other crazy content, and they’re Canadian! Everything from an ITB S2000 to a 2JZ Formula Drift BRZ

New record for tire shredder, can we used it as cheese grater? Or wood shredder? 😂

That tesla drive unit sounds so much like a rotary near full rpm.

Still more torque than your Honda.
Kinda obvious here.

Can we please stop saying “xxxx BHP at the WHEELS” . It keeps happening in these articles and its not getting any less contradictory. Either quote dyno measured WHP or calculated/factory BHP….

That’s because BHP, brake horsepower, is a unit of measurement. It is called that because it is derived from torque measured by a braked dynomometer. WHP, wheel horsepower is a NON STANDARD measurement and an annoying americanism of BHP measured at the wheels. BHP is BHP whether its measured at the wheels or the fly. So to be correct, its BHP measured at the wheels, and BHP measured at the fly.
