A Tesla Model S P100D Has Just Run The Standing Quarter In 10.6 Seconds

This is a new best for a car already known for its devastating drag strip performance, with a cheeky drop in tyre pressures part of what made it possible.

We already know the Tesla Model S P100D is fast. We wholeheartedly applaud Elon Musk’s determination to make it the fastest-launching car out there. But one has just posted a 10.6-second quarter-mile… on standard tyres.

In fact, Chris at HorsepowerFreaks achieved the time in a totally standard P100D. Love or loathe electric cars, that’s astonishing. After three passes in the 10.7s, dropping the pressures to 25psi and restoring some charge at a nearby Supercharger station brought the figures down to 10.63 seconds.

A Tesla Model S P100D Has Just Run The Standing Quarter In 10.6 Seconds

The P100D has previously run quarter-mile times in the 10.8s and even the 10.7s, but this is the first recorded 10.6 – and it’s not even a high 10.6. The P100D is the undisputed king of the real-world drag strip.

Being a stock Hellcat only does 11.2 seconds with the automatic, not sure if it’s going to chop off .7 seconds or more with the Demon. Especially if the Demon is a manual, of course. At the very most it’ll eclipse the quartermile by a marginal amount, and still be behind for the 0-60.
