We Finally Know How Much Power The 2017 Ford GT Makes

Spoiler: it's a lot. Ford has confirmed the car's thus far elusive performance stats in a tweet this morning, and the Interweb has gone crazy
We Finally Know How Much Power The 2017 Ford GT Makes

At long last Ford has revealed the official power and performance statistics for the turbocharged GT, and they make for good reading.

The blown V6 channels all of 638bhp to the wheels, along with a monumental 550lb ft of torque, 90 per cent of which is available from 3500rpm.

On a long enough straight that adds up to a 216mph top speed, which isn’t too shabby at all. A Ferrari 488 GTB only manages a pedestrian 205mph, while a McLaren 650S stops at 207mph. How would you ever get anywhere on time?

In a slightly bizarre twist to the stats released by Ford, the company claims that the GT is faster around a track than McLaren’s resident downforce fiend, the 675LT,and also the Ferrari 458 Speciale. The track? Err, Calabogie Motorsports Park in Canada. That well-known automotive proving ground that, conveniently, no one else has set any comparable times for. Hmmm.

This comes despite the press release stating categorically that the Ford GT “has no excuses to give.” We might have to reserve final judgement on its race track performance until it sets some public Nurburgring times.

Still, there’s no doubting that it’s fast. Very fast. And as you can hear in the video Ford published in its tweet today, it does sound rather good, too.
