With the current Type R arriving so late in the ninth-generation Honda Civic’s life cycle, it was always going to be a short-lived thing. And sure enough, having only gone into production part way through 2015, the Type R is seemingly no more.

Honda announced today that the last 100 Honda Civics to roll off the production line are already on their way to dealers across the UK. All 100 have been made in this new “Black Edition” trim, ensuring that each of the final ninth-gen Type R buyers know they own something rather special.

Each car comes with contrasting red end plates on the wings, some extra splashes of red on the inside, and - err - that’s kind of it. At £32,300 it costs exactly the same as the existing Type R GT model however, so it’s not like you’re paying any extra for the limited-edition car.

What’s particularly interesting is the overall numbers of UK Type Rs in the UK, which - down to the short production life - will eventually stand at 2500 according to Honda. So, the ninth-gen Type R will always be a rare sight on the roads. The next Type R on the other hand will arrive very early on in the 10th-gen Civic’s life, so should end up populating UK roads in much greater numbers.

The 10th-gen Type R is expected to be revealed in production form at the Geneva Motor Show this March, before going on sale later in the year.

ANOTHER limited run. At this point it’s either make the car or not. This sort of marketing strategy is fetting annoying, I mean subaru did it with the forester sti, lamborghini did it with the centenario, and ford wants to do the same thing with the gt.

If it’s to save in money I get it so they can focus on the rest of their lineups but at this point it seems like their using this for hype even thought most of us won’t get the cars anyway.

What are you on about, another? The FK2 had a very short production run as is, theres a white edition which is outside UK and black edition for the UK. So max 200 limited versions.

At least its not like the Limited Edition Corsas. Theres more of them on the roads than standard ones.

Luckily I see a white and a blue FK9 type R every day on my way to school! Aren’t I lucky?

That’s a couple. And… not a poor template either. A lot of these cars meld together anyway, taking the best bits and pieces from other manufacturers. Originality and innovation can sometimes be rare these days.

Normally i only want a type R in white because it belongs to a real type R. But black isn’t wrong.
